The Muga nature route

Routes

The Muga Nature route follows the course of the river Muga. The route starts down at the beach, at the mouth of the river Muga in Empuriabrava. Then it goes up to Castelló d'Empúries, and continues until Vilanova de la Muga and Pont de Molins, one of the inflection points on the route where you can see the change in landscape and in the level of the ground. Here the route changes from crossing flat lands to entering more mountainous areas. The route then heads towards Boadella and Les Escaules and then Sant Llorenç de la Muga, where it ends. This route links up the different wildlife areas such as the "Aiguamolls de l'Empordà" marshland nature reserve, the cliffs of la Muga EIN (Nature Interest Area), the Alta Garrotxa EIN, and the Les Salines EIN. The route also enables us to connect up with other circuits, such as the network of long distance hiking paths, the GR-11, the GR-2, the GR-902 and the all terrain ATB cycling routes of the Salines Bassegoda area and the St. James' Way.

Difficulty level: low from 0 to 30 km and medium-high to 40 km. Length: 40.5
