Guided tour: The Civil War in Figueres, 1936-1939 (European Heritage Days)

Guided Tours

Although the city of Figueres was far from the front until the last months of the Spanish Civil War, the war affected it from the very beginning. Faced with the threat of aerial bombardment, the Passive Defence Board of Catalonia ordered the construction of 2,000 shelters throughout the territory. This is the case of Figueres, which suffered some twenty attacks by German and Italian aircraft, from which the population took shelter in one of the preserved shelters that we will visit.
